I’m passionate about all things related to carpentry and I’ve always enjoyed working with wood. I like to create and find the process very enjoyable and rewarding – I find myself in my ‘element’.
Like many home owners, I’ve had tradesmen over the years and I became increasingly frustrated with a lack of communication, poor quality of work – for their chosen ‘profession’ – and trust rapidly fading away. Which is a key reason why I started to do more of my own jobs, and for family and friends.
In 2022 – listening to my inner voice and to fulfil an ambition – I decided to embark on a second career in carpentry and joinery, leaving a professional role in the automotive industry to work with a furniture making business, and in 2023 work with a joinery and shopfitting company, and it 2024 setting up my own business.
MY APPROACH
Is based around professionalism and the values:
- Honesty
- Integrity
- Respect
- Trust
I do the basics first: doing what I say I’m going to do; turning up on time, and when agreed; and taking care of your property.
I’m focused on high standards and delivering a personal service.
MY CREDENTIALS

I’ve created this website to demonstrate my credentials and outline the services I provide to customers.
I hold City & Guilds Levels 1, 2 and 3 Carpentry qualifications and I was awarded the Leicester College Adult Evening Excellence Award in Carpentry & Joinery at the end of the Level 3 course.
I’ve attended many woodwork and craft workshops over the years (and continue to do so), as part of my own personal interest and development.
WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY
“I have no hesitation in recommending Mal, he’s reliable, hard working and keeps in contact well before and during the job. He recently did some carpentry work for us around the house, as well as fixing the washing machine – his work was great – thank you!”
Mrs Mayes
“An honest and gifted craftsman. Rare to find such a great guy!
Highly recommend.”
Mr Dhokia
“Mal has done a few jobs for me – all to the highest standard. He is the most customer-focused, reliable and diligent tradesperson I have ever met and I recommend him highly. His work for me has included boxing a free-standing fridge in the kitchen, a bespoke corner bath panel and repairing several doors (locks, rot etc). Some of this work has been standard “chippy stuff” but some has been quite out-of-the-box and I’m not sure anyone else would have had the ability to do it.
Top quality and very fair price.”
Mr Stringer
“Mal was great in helping me set up my New home. He spent a few days hanging pictures and putting flat pack furniture together, alarms. He is such an all rounder with an attention to detail. He will never “wing it” and will get it just right. Completely trustworthy (most of the time he was left unsupervised).
He has my total vote of confidence up to the point I have had him do work at my elderly parents as is my trust in him.”
Mr Warren
“For all those DIY jobs, here is your man Mal Rooney. He has done a fabulous job on every occasion for me, with professionalism and a great eye for detail. He works tirelessly to get the job gone. No job too big or small. He has answered my cries out for help at very last minute before I tore my hair out….![]()
. Completely trustworthy and all jobs at a very high standard
”
Ms Donnelly
“Malachy has done 3 jobs for me now and I strongly recommend anyone to call him if looking for an honest, skilled and reliable tradesperson! Every job is carefully considered
and delivered to a meticulously high standard. He communicates really well, discussing options etc throughout the project and his work is competitively priced.”
